Dr Shaila Sukthankar is a Consultant Paediatrician, appointed in 2003 and is currently based at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Dr Sukthankar day-to-day focus includes outpatient elective consultations, assessment of acutely unwell children either referred by GPs or self-presenting to hospital, and inpatient acute/emergency management of sick children, in addition to providing support to various surgical and medical specialties for general paediatric overview of complex need patients' care. Her consultations are child centred and conducted in a friendly and relaxed environment, treating patients as old as one month to 16 years of age.

Dr Sukthankar qualified as a Paediatrician from premier teaching institutions in Mumbai, India, undertaking further specialist postgraduate training in paediatrics and paediatric nephrology in the UK for eight years.

Outside clinical practice, Dr Sukthankar has keen interests in postgraduate education and research. She was Clinical Lead in Paediatrics for four years, with a strong commitment to paediatric research, leading on several studies on nephrotic syndrome, RSV bronchiolitis and iron deficiency anaemia. She also has an active role in education at the level of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health as Associate Director for Medical Education, having previously held positions of Regional Adviser for Paediatrics and MRCPCH Examiner.
