    About

Mr Mirnezami is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital. He has been trained to the highest standards in open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery having completed advanced fellowship training at University College Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital, as well as the internationally renowned St Mark's Hospital, where he spent a year as Resident Surgical Officer.

Mr Mirnezami's training has allowed him to develop expertise across a broad range of colorectal conditions including early and advanced colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease,  intestinal failure and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. His main areas of clinical and research interest are colorectal cancer and neuroendocrine tumours (NET) of the mid-gut. He is currently MDT lead for colorectal cancer at the Royal Free Hospital.

Mr Mirnezami is passionate about evidence-based practice and firmly believes in the value of high quality clinical and translational research in surgery. He was awarded his PhD in 2013 at Imperial College London for a project supervised by Lord Ara Darzi which focused on developing a deeper understanding of colorectal cancer metabolism using novel molecular phenotyping approaches. Mr Mirnezami has recently completed supervising his first PhD student and is currently the lead investigator on several active research studies evaluating radiation response mechanisms in rectal cancer and the role of diet in colorectal cancer development and progression.
