Professor Jonathan Barker is a Consultant Dermatologist. He is Professor of Clinical Dermatology at St John’s Institute at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and he also sees patients privately, including at The London Bridge Hospital. He runs a tertiary referral service for patients with psoriasis at Guy’s Hopsital – in 2016 this won the BMJ Dermatology team of the year award. Professor Barker specialises in general dermatology, medical dermatology, psoriasis and skin cancer diagnosis.
He trained in London and the US and has been a consultant since 1991. He is on a number of national and international boards, including the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the International Psoriasis Council. His main research interests are inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and acne vulgaris, but primarily relate to psoriasis. In this disease his interests extend from genetic discovery, through pharmacogenetics and disease mechanisms, such as immunology, to clinical research.
Professor Barker has been involved in the clinical guideline development for psoriasis in the UK and has published widely on the subject, including authoring two books. (IPC). He has been involved in clinical guidelines development for psoriasis in the UK. He is also heavily involved in postgraduate education.
