



A pioneer of paediatric Dermatology, Professor John Harper is recognised worldwide as a pre-eminent authority on skin diseases in children. He is currently Professor of Paediatric Dermatology at the institute of Child Health, University College London and is honorary consultant at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Throughout his career, John Harper has translated research at the laboratory bench into improved outcomes for his young patients. After graduating from St Mary's Hospital, University of London, in 1973, he obtained his doctorate, studying the immunology of skin disease.
His Textbook of Paediatric Dermatology, now in its 3rd edition 2011, is internationally recognised as the gold standard text for the specialty. As well as this Professor Harper has also published over 150 peer-reviewed papers on a wide range of topics in Paediatric Dermatology.
He was the founder Secretary and Chairman of the British Society for Paediatric Dermatology and held presidency of the European Society of Paediatric Dermatology from 1993 to 1996.
