John Deanfield is a Professor of Cardiology (University College London) specialising in congenital heart disease (children and adults), and screening of risk factors to prevent cardiovascular disease. He has a particular interest in paediatric cardiology. He focusses mainly on congenital heart disease and endothelial function.
Professor Deanfield qualified in 1975 from the University of Cambridge, where he also completed his training. He also undertook training at Middlesex Hospital in London, as well as Hammersmith Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He holds memberships with many professional organisations, and he is a member of many editorial boards for cardiovascular journals. He has also published his research and work in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He actively undertakes research and his main area of focus is on vascular medicine. Professor Deanfield has also been successfully awarded many prizes throughout his career, including the Churchill College Anatomy Award.
