Ms Seema Seetharam completed her medical studies in 1995 at Mangalore University, India. She continued to complete her Basic Surgical Training that includes a time she carried out formal research in the West of Scotland region. She was trained to be a specialist training in Breast and Oncoplastic surgery in the South East London region that includes Guys hospital, London and PRUH, Bromley. She became one of the first-ever cohorts of surgeons to receive the award of Fellow of the European Board of Surgery Qualification (FEBS) in Breast Surgery in 2010. She achieved a remarkable career promotion by becoming a Consultant Oncoplastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon in 2010.
Ms Seetharam has experience in managing a variety of breast disease (benign and malignant). Part of her services is a one-Stop clinic consultation including Triple assessment (clinical examination, imaging and biopsy as needed) and she receives support from the finest team of radiologists, pathologists, oncologists and Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists. She is an expert of Reconstructive Breast Surgery after Mastectomy providing recent techniques like implant-based reconstruction, Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM), Lipofilling (fat transfer) and Nipple areolar reconstruction. She is specifically interested in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, a cosmetically ultimate means of achieving breast conservation; for example, in a patient having large cancer in a large breast, a reduction mammoplasty as against standard lumpectomy provides a more satisfactory result considering both oncology and aesthetic. Another service she offers is a variety of Cosmetic Breast Surgical procedures like Augmentation, Reduction, Mastopexy and Symmeterisation.
Ms Seetharam provides clinical consultations for patients having a family history of breast cancer. Her research efforts have produced a number of publications with presentations at meetings held nationally and internationally. She has received an invitation as Faculty at international conferences and she loves to disseminate knowledge and experience. She is especially interested in surgical training and has been a Surgical Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England until 2014. She strongly advocates public education and awareness. When it comes to breast disease, she has carried out workshops and has been called upon for talks for GPs, patients and the public. Ms Seetharam is likewise into fundraising for her NHS Breast Unit when she is less busy.
Compassion and personalised care that provides a positive patient experience even under challenges is her belief. She came up with a breast service towards the provision of a high standard comprehensive care (within her NHS and private practice).
