Ms Avril Chang is a Consultant General Surgeon at Kings College and London Bridge Hospitals. She has a clinical interest in all aspects of gallstone disease and specialises in performing laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery. She also performs hernia repair using laparoscopic and open extraperitoneal approaches, which are newer methods which reduce pain and discomfort.

After graduating with Honours in 1988 from Monash University Medical School in Australia, she gained her Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1997. Following this she completed specialist laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal training at Leeds General Infirmary and St. Mary's Hospital in London. She is a member of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society and the BMA.

Alongside her clinical work, she is actively involved in the training of junior surgeons particularly on the practical aspects of laparoscopic surgery and safety in theatre.
