Dr Fairuz Awenat is a Chartered & Consultant Clinical Psychologist who qualified in 2004 from the University of Manchester. She has over 13 years' experience of working in the NHS, prior to moving to the independent sector and she is Director-Founder of Taylor-Awenat Specialist Psychological Services.. She sees patients privately at a number of locations, including HCA at The Wilmslow Hospital.
She previously worked at Priory Cheadle Royal Hospital as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in January 2011 where she stayed until September 2019 as the Head of Psychology (Adult and Young People's Services). She provided clinical and managerial supervision to team members across the entire hospital while providing clinical input herself into the secure Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs).
She is experienced in treating a range of mental health difficulties (such as depression, anxiety, trauma, stress), as well as physical health (chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, weight management, psychological responses to physical health problems), and also with individuals who find that life is not working as they like (relationship difficulties, interpersonal effectiveness) and want to develop psychological skills to gain more fulfilment and enriched living. Dr Awenat's research interests include anger management, social anxiety and psychological alternatives to psychiatric diagnosis
She is experienced in the use of CBT, Compassionate Mind Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Schema Focussed Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and is intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Her primary therapeutic modality is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - a third generation form of CBT.
