Fellowship-trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Sammy Hanna is a leading expert in his field, with particular interest in managing hip and knee disorders. Mr Hanna serves for the NHS at one Europe's busiest major trauma centres, The Royal London Hospital. He offers care to patients who are severely injured and to those experiencing complex hip and knee problems. Mr Hanna's clinical areas of expertise include arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery for cartilage and ligament sports injuries, revision (re-do) joint replacement surgery for failure or infection, primary and complex primary joint replacements for degenerative conditions (such as arthritis) and surgical management of lower limb trauma and fractures.
Mr Hanna gained extensive experience of a diverse spectrum hip and knee disorders, reconstructive treatments, as well as arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery, thanks to his orthopaedic training on the distinguished Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital training programme. After completing this, he embarked upon two advanced subspecialty fellowships focused solely on hip and knee surgery at the globally renowned Rorabeck-Bourne Joint Replacement Institute at the University of Western Ontario in Canada and The Royal London Hospital. Mr Hanna even further broadened his skills and experience through visiting multiple centres of excellence in Europe for hip and knee surgery and sports injuries as part of further fellowship training, including Vall d’Hebron Hospital (Barcelona, Spain), CUF Descobertas Hospital (Lisbon, Portugal) and the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute (Bologna, Italy).
Outside of his busy clinical role, Mr Hanna also devotes his time to education and is actively involved in teaching, training and research as part of his position as honorary senior lecturer at Barts and The London School for Medicine and Dentistry. He is passionate about and heavily involved in research centred around hip and knee construction.
When it comes to his practice, Mr Hanna lives by the philosophy that the best outcomes for patients are only achieved when options are carefully considered and options are thoroughly discussed, and with the support of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. Indeed, Mr Hanna is supported by a tight network of expertly trained orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, physiotherapists, anaesthetists and radiologists, all working together to ensure each patient receives an individual and personalised treatment plan.
