“Mr Chana has my trust and admiration. He has carried out a full knee replacement and now a Hip replacement on me. He has been very approachful and pleasant to deal with from our first consultation to post Op appointment, explaining what he would do and how and what I needed to do to assist my own recovery after the operations. His staff are polite and efficient. I have recommended him to others and I know of folk who have also been under his care who have nothing but praise for him.“

    About

Mr Chana is a dedicated hip specialist with expertise relating to all adult hip conditions. His two main areas of focus are in Hip Joint Preservation Surgery and Hip Replacement surgery.

As a fellowship trained Hip Arthroscopy surgeon, it is always a pleasure to see any patient who is struggling with conservative active therapy. Hip Joint Preservation (keyhole or arthroscopy) is a philosophy of doing our utmost to keep your natural hip joint in the best health and function, for as long as we can. Mr Chana's goal is to bridge the gap for those patients with early wear and tear hip problems that are not ready for a hip replacement. With a biological reconstruction rather than metal implants, we can help you to achieve your goals whilst still allowing you to keep your natural hip joint. Our multidisciplinary super team will ensure you have the best care and results possible.

Another area of specialist interest is in sports injuries for young active adults. He has successfully treated patients and returned them to their targeted athletic/sporting goals. These include conditions such as hip cam, pincer or subspinous impingement, all forms of femoral-acetabular impingement. If left, these also result in labral tears, cartilage damage and focal articular cartilage defects that be repaired or reconstructed, if found and treated in time.

Areas of expertise also extend to delivering pain relief from trochanteric bursitis, hip & gluteal core buttock pain, ITB syndrome and lower leg pain as these conditions often occur in conjunction with sports injuries in active patients and people suffering from arthritis.

A key factor in advising patients about their hip is knowing when we can save the natural joint or when to consider a Total Hip Replacement.

Mr Chana has completed two world-renowned hip replacement fellowship programs in Sydney and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore to provide an exceptionally high-quality joint replacement service with enhanced rehabilitation and have a cohort of very happy customers.

Mr Chana is an enthusiastic surgeon, chef and BBQ pitmaster.

My GP said I had arthritis, a year down the road Mr Chana did a hip arthroscopy to repair a tear and smooth the head of the femur. It was a long recovery but the surgery was an success and he did an excellent job. 9 months later, I am pain free and no longer even think of my hip. Him and his team did a great job looking after me post op too. Thank you!

At first appointment with Mr. Chana about my painful knee he swiftly diagnosed that the additional pains in my thigh were due to bursitis and organised an ultrasound scan guided injection which to my joy brought fast relief. The total knee replacement operation went very smoothly and at my six week review Mr. Chana was very pleased with how well I was able to walk and able to bend my knee to 110 degrees. He kindly removed all the staples at that session to save us an extra hospital visit to a nurse on the following day. We have already recommended Mr. Chana to a friend and assured her of his expertise and his friendly and courteous manner.

I saw Mr Chana to discuss a hip replacement & decided to go ahead with the operation in the November. I felt very comfortable in discussing the problem & confident. The operation went well, (at the BMI Shelburne), although it a big shock to the system I have recovered well. I no longer have the back pain which has affected me for years. The scar is healing well, with minimal discomfort. After 8 weeks, I do not need a stick or walk with a limp. Although I take a stick with me, more as a visual aid to avoid people bumping into me & knocking me over. I am informed the 2nd hip will need replacing at some point & would want Mr Chana to perform this too.

Mr Chana gave me realistic expectations of the operations. I had both my bunions removed and surgery to my big toes to straighten them out. On every occasion I met with him he was professional, empathetic with a cheerful disposition. Although I was not expecting him to give me a steroid injection into an arthritic joint, he did so at an outpatient appointment to help aleviate the pain in that joint. I am also attending physiotherapy appointments in the hope that my mobility improves. I would certainly recommend Mr Chana to anyone who requires lower limb surgery.

I had a successful ITB release surgery and am so glad that he stress, limping from this injury and pain has gone after my operation. It affected my, up that point, successfully replaced right hip, giving acute pain both in the daytime, but especially at night. I lost sleep because I could not get comfortable in any position and I had to resign myself to life in the slow lane. Then my osteopath, who had been trying to relieve the pain by weekly treatments , met Mr Chana at a conference. He found out about keyhole surgery that might possibly help me. I got a referral to Mr Chana, who listened carefully to the description of my problem (unlike a previous consultant, who, without even looking at my hip sent me for Cortizone Injections). An operation called an ITB keyhole release was performed and in 10 weeks I was completely healed and pain free. I have a number of friends who have bursitis who have been in pain for years. No-one has claimed that this operation is always successful, but it worked for me and it could well work for others. Mr Chana gave me hope and subsequently, with his help, I got my life back.

I am so grateful to Mr Chana for the fantastic care I recieved from him and his team. I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis which, over the years, greatly affected my knees and I was in a lot of pain and unable to walk well. Mr Chana performed a right total knee replacement in 2014 and a left total knee replacement in 2015. He was very informative and explained everything to me, which gave me complete confidence going into and after surgery. I am now pain free and mobilising well. The surgery has made a huge difference to my home and work life.
 Thank you.

I felt the care I received from Mr Chana was exemplary and at no point in the process did I feel I was either not listened to or my concerns not addressed. It took only five weeks from my first meeting with Mr Chana to a successful operation in which my right hip was replaced. The whole experience was pleasing and demonstrates the excellence of the NHS.

Only 6 weeks after my total hip replacement I am fully recovered and pain free. I felt throughout my treatment by Mr Chana totally relaxed. Mr Chana took plenty of time to explain the procedure and fully understood and respected my personal needs regarding my profession. Currently I am making great progress.

Mr Rishi Chana did my total hip replacement on the 3rd of March 2016 and cannot recommend him highly enough. He is a brilliant, skilled and caring Consultant. Before surgery I was in a lot of pain and unable to walk very far at all. He was very kind and explained everything at each stage. He answered all my questions in an understanding way which gave me the confidence in him. His team was also excellent and the care I received from Mr Chana and, the nursing staff and physio made the whole process easy to cope with. The surgery was life changing so thank you very much!

I saw Mr Chana for total right hip replacement in April this year. The procedure was carried out at The Shelburne hospital in High Wycombe. The operation was totally successful and I can walk normally after 6 weeks. I am so grateful, thank you. My treatment at this hospital was excellent. Mr Chana has a calm and reassuring manner which was a great help before and after surgery. The physio at Chiltern was also excellent and I shall continue their exercise advice as recommended.

Having had physio privately for about 4 month on my Achilles without much benefit I was recommended to see my doctor to get a referral and I saw Dr. Chana who immediately could see the problem and sent me for injections and got me back to running almost immediately. He knows his stuff and so nice and reassuring.

Dear Mr Chana, I would like to thank you for the total knee replacement on 16 may 2016, I was reluctant to go ahead with the operation as I had a partial knee replacement 17 months before which had gone wrong ( due to a metal allergy). I am so glad I had the operation.
Mr chana is a very kind and compassionate doctor, I felt reassured by his calm manner and I felt I was being listened to and my feelings were taken into consideration.
I would have no qualms about recommending Mr chana he is an excellent surgeon.

He is genuinely charming and inspires confidence. pre-surgery and concern after it - I had a left hip replacement . I would not hesitate to recommend any member of my family to trust him throughout his range of orthopaedic specialities. An all round good chap and a talented professional.

I was very nervous about having a major operation (hip arthroscopy) however i was lucky enough to be under the care of Mr Chana. He is a consummate professional, not only with his professional expertise but also with his very calm cheery and reassuring manner. Mr Chana takes the time to explain every stage in such a way that even I can understand that gave me confidence going into and after surgery. I am now 5 months post surgery and feeling great and getting better with everyday. I would highly recommend Mr Chana to anyone who requires orthopaedic surgery and can't thank him and his team enough.

I had an accident some time ago which left me with a painful problem in my left leg, I tried to brave it out, but it finally caught up with me, After meeting Mr Chana, it came as a shock to find out that a Total Hip replacement was required, but his calm reassuring relaxing manner put me at ease as he explained the process to come. I was obviously a little apprehensive, however Mr Chana was very professional, and from the first consultation until my final meeting with him last night has been an amazingly good experience. I would like to thank all the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital who were friendly, courteous and very helpful during my short visit, and I would highly recommend treatment from Mr Chana to anyone, he is a total credit to his profession, a mere thank you did not seem enough, but that’s all I could do. Again many thanks Mr Chana for giving me a fresh lease of life

Before seeing Mr Chana, I was in constant pain, albeit a dull ache. I saw Mr Chana after about a year or so of different consultants and he said that he wanted to try a few ideas first but thought that I could require surgery. I was sent for a PRP injection into the affected area and that seemed to work for about 6 weeks, then the pain came back. Mr. Chana then scheduled an operation date to remove the part of the heel that was giving me the pain. To do this he would have to cut through my achilles tendon. After the operation Mr Chana told me that he changed his mind during the operation and shaved the ankle bone without cutting the achilles. This meant a much faster recovery time and I could go home the same day. I have met with Mr. Chana twice since the op and can safely say that he has sorted it. I am back running and feel no pain in the ankle whatsoever. A huge thanks goes to Mr. Chana and his team. I was sceptical but it's all worked out.

Only 7 weeks since my full hip replacement and I am pain free and happy that I am walking confidently for which I would like to thank Mr Chana and all the staff at Ashford hospital for there professional care. From the start of the process i.e. MRI, consultant, surgeon pre-op and nursing staff. I suffered very little pain and was up on feet in no time, as being self employed I was keen to start work again and playing golf which I did after 6 weeks. Thank you!
