Mr Rajan Uppal is a highly experienced surgeon who has worked for over 15 years as a plastic surgeon in London and Windsor. He has recently been elected as a Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) which is a prestigious honour for plastic surgeons. It is not often awarded to surgeons who trained and work outside the US but
is given in recognition of skills and reputation as well as contribution to the field of plastic surgery.
Mr Uppal was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex and grew up around Berkshire. He went to medical school at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London. At medical school, he was an active member of the Rowing team and Tennis club and maintains these interests. He qualified in Medicine and Surgery in 1993 and was awarded a Prize in Pharmacology at his final examinations at the University of London.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 following completion of his junior surgical training. He went on to pursue his interest in research and undertook a clinical trial of a new medicine that improved wound healing. He was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) degree at University College London for this thesis in 1999. His work
was published in medical journals in the United States.
Mr Uppal has worked in teaching hospitals in London including Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, St Batholomew’s Hospital and St George’s Hospital. He has been fortunate to work with many leading surgeons in the UK, US and Europe. He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery FRCS(Plast) as a result of his experience and work.
Mr Uppal is an experienced plastic surgeon who specialises in complex specialist surgery of the face, body and breast. He has lectured on Rhinoplasty and presented his work at the BAAPS International Plastic conference. He has pioneered the Cross-Cartilaginous Approach to Closed Rhinoplasty.
He is also frequently called as an Expert witness for complex legal cases in Plastic surgery. He undertakes DIEP flap breast reconstruction which is highly skilled surgery requiring specialist ability in microsurgery. He is one of only about 100 surgeons who perform this in the UK.
Royal College Examiner
Mr Uppal is an Examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons where he supervises the MRCS examinations so that trainee surgeons can get the surgical qualification. He has a commitment to teaching and training other surgeons so that he can share his knowledge and years of experience for the benefit of patients.
International Experience
Mr Uppal has spent three months living and working in Belgium to further specialise in his subspecialty interest of Breast Cancer Reconstruction. He has travelled to meetings in France, Belgium, Italy and the US to keep up to date with the latest techniques and continues to do so.
Lectures
Mr Uppal is a regular lecturer at the Royal College of Radiologists in Sentinel node biopsy for malignant melanoma. He helped to develop a new technique using ultrasound measurement of node depth for patients with melanoma. He has published this technique in the European Journal of Plastic Surgery. He also lectures at the Hellenic Centre and Thames
Valley University.

Mr Uppal is one of the most highly regarded plastic surgeons in the UK and has led a well-established practice for over 15 years in Harley Street and Windsor. In 2012, he was elected as a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) which is a rare honour for surgeons outside the US.
Mr Uppal is board certified which is the US equivalent of the UK Specialist GMC Register of Plastic Surgery.
Mr Uppal is often invited as a guest speaker at conferences around the world including the EURAPS conference (2013) in Turkey and the FACE conference (2013) in London. He also participated in the prestigious New York Rhinoplasty Symposium in 2011.
Mr Uppal is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the BAPRAS. He a member of the Council for BAAPS.
Mr Uppal is a leading rhinoplasty surgeon who specialises in the closed approach. He has 15 years experience in complex open and revision rhinoplasty. He is a reviewer for the British Journal of Plastic Surgery (JPRAS) and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a member of BAAPS council, ASPS, ISAPS and BAPRAS.
He has published articles on Rhinoplasty and is an invited expert lecturer at a number of International Rhinoplasty courses.
