    About

Mr Sooriakumaran, widely known by his initials PS, is a global leader in prostate cancer care, and one of the UK's best known robotic surgeons. He has the largest following of any UK urologist on LinkedIn and Twitter. PS works as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), the UK's highest volume centre for surgery in prostate cancer.

PS also works privately at the Santis Clinic, the only UK centre where all surgeons were listed in the Daily Mail's "best urologists in Britain"; this listing was created by asking urologists across the UK who they would most want their nearest and dearest treated by, and it is thus a huge honour for PS to be the youngest surgeon to make the List. PS was cited as "an outstanding robotic surgeon... [who] cares deeply about getting good outcomes".

PS was one of London's Most Influential People in Healthcare in 2018 and topped the List in 2019 to become London's Most Influential Doctor. PS is the only urologist to make the List twice, and this is a testament to his patient outcomes and testimonials, and his globally penetrating research to improve prostate cancer surgery for patients worldwide. PS is a world-leading academic with research that has changed the practice of prostate cancer care, especially robotic surgery. Most of his >150 publications can be found at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=sooriakumaran+p .

PS performs far more robotic prostate cancer surgeries (robotic prostatectomies) than the average UK surgeon, and his outcomes are significantly better as a result of this experience and his exceptional training; PS trained under the global pioneers of robotic surgery at Cornell University in New York (Ivy League) and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He also underwent a Senior Fellowship at the world-renowned Oxford University where he still holds a visiting appointment as a Senior Researcher. He is also an Associate Professor (Hon) at University College London, and has held Visiting Professorships at world-leading institutions across the globe.

PS is frequently invited to speak at and chair meetings in the USA, Continental Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as a result of his world recognised expertise in prostate cancer care. He has received commendations and awards from some of the most prestigious urology and oncology societies in the world: European Association of Urology, British Association of Urological Surgeons, American Urologic Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and many more. Even the robotic surgical manufacturer Intutive Surgical has recognised PS as a European Leader in robotic surgery.

PS was not privately educated, was born in a developing country, and has had "real-world" experiences of poverty and family illness that help him to empathize with his patients. If you want a surgeon withours airs and graces who will talk to you as an equal and treat you as if you were a loved one, then PS is keen to see you. PS has patients from all over the world across the range of urology conditions but with a special focus on prostate cancer and prostate diseases.

PS is available for appointments on most weekdays (face to face, video, or telephone) via his secretary Simone Castle on scastle@santishealth.org and 0203 389 5860. PS is a fledgling golfer and spends most weekends playing with his kids (and patients!).

PS was so professional and reassuring about the whole process. I was extremely anxious and worried about being diagnosed with prostate cancer. PS offered a very slick and supportive process throughout. He is an amazing doctor and extremely caring about his patients. I was extremely fortunate to be referred to him for my care and I will be eternally grateful for his skill and expertise. Thank you so much for looking after me.

I was diagnosed with a gleason 6, stage T1, PSA 4.2, prostate cancer two years ago by an NHS Urologist and put on active surveillance. During this time my PSA level continued to rise but I was told that there is nothing to worry about as my cancer is very low grade and my MRI scans "showed none specific changes" from the previous three years. Eventually my PSA climbed to 10.0 and they agreed to another biopsy but due to their relaxed attitude I decided to go for a private second opinion. I had a consultation with Prasanna Sooriakumaran, who was very friendly and supportive and who immediately set up an appointment for a private MRI scan. Two days after the scan the result came through, two gleason 8 tumours, one possibly spread to my Seminal Vesicles. Prasanna immediately set things in motion, fast tracking a biopsy, bone scan, and carried out a pronstatectomy, while removing the Seminal Vesicles, using the latest Da Vinci robotic surgery. Due to Prasanna's professionalism and skill, the operation was a success, with my first PSA reading classed as undetectable, dispite the cancer being a grade T3a. I hate to think what would have happened if I had stayed with the original Urologist, and I am so lucky to have chosen One of the top Urologists in the country.

An amazing guy. So glad I found Santis and PS to perform by recent prostate removal at The Princess Grace hospital in London. Even with all the difficulties with COVID everything went brilliantly. My initial diagnosis was T3 and it was proposed that I would have Non nerve sparing surgery. However during the operation they were able to remove the Prostate and carry out frozen sections. The result downgraded the cancer to T2 and PS was able to complete the operation with Nerve sparing and bladder neck sparing. As soon as the catheter was removed I was reasonably continent apart from a few leaks when bending, coughing etc. Now some 10 weeks later even those have just about stopped. Erections not yet returned but that will take time. So glad for the skill and dedication of PS in sorting this out for me. Had first blood test after 2 months that showed PSA as undetectable - will monitor now 3 monthly with phone consultation with PS. Thanks PS

Prasanna Soorikumaran is the most impressive, caring and easy to understand Surgeon that I have come across over the years. Being diagnosed with something such as Prostate Cancer is a very big issue for anyone but bigger for me as I have suffered with depression / anxiety for over 10 years. He put me at ease from the start explaining in easy to understand terms what the procedure would consist of, after confirming that it was definitely the right option for me, and that my chances of cure were absolutely excellent (just what I wanted to hear!). I had calls from him before the operation asking how I was feeling and whether had any questions which was a lovely touch and something I have not experienced before. The operation was virtually painless for me and although I felt tired I wasn't asking constantly for painkillers and have not taken any since being discharged. His visit to see me the day after the operation (it turned out that he had given up half term holiday to perform mine and and a similar operation that day) was great and again put me totally at ease. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about him. I have recommended him to colleagues who are looking at getting treated their own Prostate issues. He is a breath of fresh air and I can only say a big thank you for giving me back my life. Thank you PS!
