Mr Barton-Smith's speciality is complex robotic and minimally invasive and surgery for benign gynaecological conditions mainly related to pelvic pain and subfertility related to endometriosis but also including uterine fibroids and abnormal bleeding. He is the Director of The Endometriosis Clinic Ltd in London.
Peter completed a four-year fellowship at the MATTU, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford from 2004-2008 and gained a doctorate degree in endometriosis. He trained in the use of the da Vinci© robotic surgical system during a period as a Visiting Consultant in the USA at the North Texas Hospital in Dallas in 2008. He then established the first and leading UK robotic gynaecological surgery programme at the Royal Surrey. He has performed over 600 procedures making him the most experienced gynaecologist in robotic surgery in the UK. He moved to Singapore to be Chief of the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Section in the O&G Dept at Singapore General Hospital in 2013.
In 2016 he returned to the UK and started The Endometriosis Clinic to provide quality care for endometriosis and pelvic pain sufferers. This is currently based at The Princess Grace Hospital. The Clinic uses a unique multidisciplinary, holistic and personalised approach to pelvic pain and endometriosis meaning that help is often possible for women who have been searching for years for solutions. Women come internationally from many countries and backgrounds to The Endometriosis Clinic, mostly on the word of mouth recommendations of women that have had successful treatment.
He continues as an international authority in endometriosis and robotics and teaches other specialists worldwide.
