Mr Pavol Surda is a Consultant ENT Surgeon based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals as well as holding practising privileges at London Bridge Hospital. Mr Surda covers the whole breadth of rhinology with a specific focus on the management of snoring, sleep-disordered breathing, nasal deformities, advanced sinus surgery and skull base surgery. He has postgraduate training covering all aspects of ENT surgery that took place in the UK, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. As a result of his training, Mr Surda has a wealth of international experience and is fluent in English, Slovak, Czech and Dutch. After finishing speciality training, he undertook a year-long fellowship in rhinology & facial plastics at St George’s University Hospital, London under Mr Abbad Toma and Mr Mehmet Manisali. Following his fellowship, he gained further experience in anterior skull base surgery through a fellowship at the Academic Medical Centre University Hospital in Amsterdam under Prof. Wytske Fokkens.
Mr Surda’s professional interests align with research and education. To this end, he is a co-author of SurgTech (offering crowdsourced surgical training videos), a regular faculty member on various instructional courses and he has presented at multiple international conferences. Mr Surda sits on the executive board of the European Rhinologic Society and is frequently the responsible officer for research programmes at major international congresses. His PhD research is primarily focussed on “rhinitis in athletes” and he has written or co-authored 34 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 5 book chapters (https://goo.gl/VDbyMC). Mr Surda has been awarded several academic prizes for his research, including the European Rhinologic Society travel grant and Ilorin Award of Excellence.
Mr Surda’s background as a former professional triathlete has instilled a passion for perfectionism and has taught him the principle of fair play. Both of these attributes were reflected in the Fair Play prize awarded by the Olympic Committee.
