Following his qualification in 1988 he followed general surgical training and trained in neurosurgery. He became a consultant neurosurgeon at the age of 33 and has a broad clinial practice which includes sub speciality interests such as complex spine surgery, anterior and lateral skull base surgery and endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery.
He also runs a national multi-disciplinary clinic dedicated to neurofibromatosis and von Hieel Lindau disease. He is a valued panel member on international workshops on endoscopic pituitary surgery
For the last 15 years, Mr Thomas has visited Sri Lanka to lecture and perform operations with local neurosurgeons at the National Hospital and Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital in Colombo on a charitable basis.
