“I found Mr Miah extremely helpful. He explained everything in a detailed way. As I am elderly, I sometimes find people "talk down" to me as if I had little comprehension. This was certainly not the case with Mr. Miah. He treated me with dignity and accepted I actually had some intelligence! Together we created a management plan for my condition. He used an endoscope to examine my nose and it was the gentlest I have experienced. I came away from the consultation with more knowledge of the condition and reassurance that , although I may experience further heavy posterior nosebleeds , I will only need surgery as a last resort, although he emphasised that I should seek emergency treatment if the bleeds do not stop after 20 minutes. This has made me more confident with managing the situation and getting back to enjoying life again.“

    About

Mr Miah is a Consultant Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon who was appointed as a Consultant immediately after the completion of his specialist training programme in 2015 at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Qualifying with an undergraduate degree in Medicine from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2003, he went on to complete his core training in Liverpool and Blackpool. Here, he built his skills and gained experience in general surgery, vascular surgery, orthopaedics and trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and organ transplantation as well as ENT surgery.

He is experienced in paediatric ENT surgery as well as to adult ENT surgery. The majority of his specialist ENT training took place in Scotland and Yorkshire. Included in this training was the development of a range of general ENT and head and neck surgical skills which included skull base and facial plastic surgery. He has also collaborated with maxillofacial surgeons to further hone his experience in facial plastic surgery along with head and neck oncology.

Currently, he works in otology and hearing implantations and is part of the Bone-Anchored Hearing Implant Team at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

To complement his clinical work, Mr Miah is involved in the training of medical, dental and nursing students. He has been an Honorary Clinical Teacher and Examiner for OSCE’s at the University of Dundee Medical School. Additionally, he is actively involved in research into ENT conditions with a particular focus on the ear.

I feel that he was a little dismissive of my ear symptoms at first, however he did listen and has agreed to help me with scans and a possible referral elsewhere if needed. I do think he has my best interest at heart and wants to help me.
