



Cardiothoracic Surgery
Mr Martin Kostolny is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and The Harley Street Clinic. He specialises in aortic valve repair, congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries and complex biventricular repairs. He also performs surgery for pulmonary atresia, Ventricular septal defects (VSD) and Major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs).
After graduating in Medicine from the Comenius University, he trained at the Heart Centre at the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava under Prof Hraska, the German Heart Centre in Munich under Prof Lange and GOSH. In 2006 he was appointed as a consultant at the GOSH Cardiothoracic Unit and is now Head of Clinical Service for Cardiothoracic Surgery. The National Congenital Heart disease audit (2019) found that the congenital heart surgical programme at GOSH had been achieving outcomes higher than predicted for four consecutive years.
Mr Kostolny supports congenital heart programmes across the world, including Serbia, Germany, France, and Turkey. He is regularly invited to present at at international meetings and is member of several professional societies. He has also authored and co-authored more than 70 manuscripts and book chapters.
