The Waterfront Beaufort House Elstree Road, Elstree, United Kingdom, WD6 3BSDr Michael Koa-Wing is a Consultant Cardiologist at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust and Imperial College Healthcare, Hammersmith Hospital. He is the clinical lead for cardiac electrophysiology at West Herts Hospitals and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, London.
Dr Koa-Wing is trained in all aspects of general cardiology, including the management of chest pain, heart failure and palpitations, with a major subspecialist interest in arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders) and implantable cardiac devices. He can perform implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices and is an accredited cardiac device specialist. He also performs catheter ablation for all arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
Dr Koa-Wing graduated from Guys’, King’s and St. Thomas’ Medical Schools with distinctions, having already received an intercalated BSc in pharmacology, undertaking his postgraduate training at St. Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. During his training years, he has also gained experience at Harvard Medical School associated Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, USA.
Dr Koa-Wing has a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology from Imperial College, London, with his research findings resulting in a major multicentre clinical trial in ventricular tachycardia ablation in addition to the development a novel 3D mapping system for ablation of complex arrhythmias (Ripple Mapping), now in clinical use.
Dr Koa-Wing is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, British Cardiac Society, European Society of Cardiology and British Heart Rhythm Society.
