52 Alderley Road, Wilmslow, United Kingdom, SK9 1NYProfessor Khurshid Akhtar is a Consultant General & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon who leads one of the largest Upper GI Cancer and Benign Disease Centre and the Salford Royal NHS Hospital Tust. He specialises in using advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to treat obesity, this includes Oesophagius and stomach cancer surgery, Hiatus hernia operation, keyhole inguinal hernia operation and keyhole gall stone surgery
Mr Akhtar completed most of his postgraduate surgical training in the North West of England and undertook further specialist training in Japan and the US. Following this, he completed his post graduate research at the Manchester University and was awarded degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2000.
Since 2000 he has be working as consultant surgeon in the Pennine NHS Trust. He also has clinics at the Rochdale Infirmary and North Manchester General Hospital. As well as stomach and oesophageal cancer surgery Mr Akhtar routinely performs laparoscopic operations including laparoscopic hernia surgery, cholecystectomy, anti-reflux surgery and splenectomy.
He is a member of AUGIS, BOMSS and The Royal College of Surgeons of England.
