“I wish all consultants were like Prof Akhtar. He is a very nice man and clearly an expert in his field. He seems to love his work and the care of his patients rather than seeking commercial gain as some consultants do.“

Gave a good explanation of what to expect with the surgery, and how to manage the condition in the period up to surgery. Very brief interaction on the day of the surgery, and seemed a little rushed then, but was very happy to take his time and explain everything I asked during both the pre-op and post-op sessions. The surgery went very well, with no problems or issues (it was described to me as 'boring' - which is definitely a good thing!). Overall, a very good experience and I am very grateful to him.

Professor Akhtar has made my experience of surgery as good as I could of hoped for. I find the whole concept of surgery terrifying and at the pre op appointment he gave me just enough information so I knew what to expect but allowed me to ask questions if I wanted to know more - which I personally didn’t. On the day of surgery he was incredibly reassuring, he could sense I was extremely anxious and ensured I was well looked after to calm my nerves. The surgery has been a success, and I’m healing well. I’m so happy that I went with Professor Akhtar and would highly recommend.

    Acid Reflux
Mr Akhtar is quite simply fantastic. I was referred to him for anti-reflux surgery after suffering with acid reflux for 2 years attending A&E due to severe pain. I was very nervous about this surgery as I had heard that it was technical but was put at ease by Mr Akhtar and his knowledge. He explained in detail what would happen and any possible side effects, gave me the chance to ask comments and was very understanding of my anxieties related to having surgery. His bedside manner was great and he really is a lovely man who you feel genuinely cares right up until discharge. I am now almost 5mths post surgery and feel great. My quality of life has significantly improved and I no longer have pain. I am able to eat anything again and don't rely on medication. It took about 6 weeks for me to start to return to a 'normal' diet and after 2 1/2 mths I can eat / drink what I like. It truly has been life changing for me as I feel healthy and able to deal with what the day brings rather than heading straight for the medical cupboard in the morning. I can't recommend Mr Akhtar enough. His secretary is also fab and again very helpful and friendly. My experience going through this surgery (which I was quite scared about) has been extremely positive. Thank you Dr Akhtar and Catherine.

Great experiance, I recovered quickly and felt good after a few days. Three weeks later and back to normal although I felt great after two weeks. The scars are very small and the explanation at pre and post op appointment made everything very clear.

Professor Akhtar is without doubt the finest medical professional I have encountered .He personally saved me from a very aggressive Oesophageal cancer by his skill as a surgeon and particularly in his use of laparoscopy in a difficult surgical procedure. This ensured a much speedier recovery for me than would normally have been expected via open surgical procedures.I have since made a full recovery and live a relatively normal life. His knowledge and manner are of the highest standard you could ever expect.
