 Mr Joseph Curry is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon who trained on the South East of England rotation and was awarded the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons' medal for outstanding performance in the intercollegiate examination prior to taking up his current post in 2003. He is currently the most senior neonatal and paediatric surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Mr Curry's main areas of interests include gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract. Particular areas of expertise are in oesophageal surgery, anti-reflux surgery and lower bowel surgery including children with ano-rectal anomalies, Hirschsprung’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. He is also highly experienced in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery even in infants as small as 1kg.
Mr Curry is also highly active in training senior trainees in surgery in his NHS practice. He holds a post-graduate Certificate and Diploma in medical education from the University of London. He is currently the representative for the South of England on the executive committee of the British association of Paediatric Surgeons.
