After graduating with medical honours from The University of London in 1990 and gaining the general FRCS in 1995, Mr Bliss underwent specialist orthopaedic and trauma surgery training. Mr Bliss advanced orthopaedic training was based at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
Mr Bliss obtained the Walter Mercer Gold Medal at the completion of his orthopaedic training in Orthopaedics and Trauma in 2000. Mr Bliss subsequently spent a year in sub-specialist fellowship training at The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. During this time, Mr Bliss focused exclusively on knee surgery.
He was appointed as a consultant to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 2002, with his elective practice being exclusively knee surgery. Currently, he closely involved in training surgeons in complex knee surgery and is a senior Inter-Collegiate Examiner for the FRCS exam in Orthopaedics - the final examination before trainee surgeons become consultants.
In his practice, Mr Bliss manages all aspects that relate to knee injuries and with a particular experience and depth of knowledge in ligament reconstruction, joint preservation (osteotomy and mensical transplant) and revision knee replacement.
In his knee practice in both his NHS practice based Guy's Hospital and his private medical knee practice in central London, he provides second opinion and surgical support for a number of knee surgical colleagues, who refer complex cases to him, in addition to providing direct support to patients with knee problems who come to see him directly.
