



Orthopaedic Surgery
Mr McDermott is a Consultant Knee Surgeon specialising in orthopedic surgery as well as Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London. McDermott graduated with MBBS from Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1992. He attended his postgraduate training across the UK including Oxford and Nottingham. He underwent specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics as a Specialist Registrar in North West Thames region where he also spent his training at Southampton General Hospital as a specialist knee fellow with another colleague, Dr David Barrett. McDermott then completed in training in 2003 and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and then registered as an accredited Specialist Registrar of the General Medical Council. Mr McDermott eventually was appointed as a Consultant in Orthopaedic department at Ealing Hospital in 2005. Later, Ian left the NHS to focus practicing Orthopaedics in a private sector.
Mr McDermott has strong interest in academia proven by being awarded the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) President’s Medal by Mr. Malcolm Glasgow for his research into biomechanics underlying meniscal repair. Ian also was awarded a Master of Surgery Higher Degree from Imperial College London in 2004 for his outstanding thesis on the Biomechanics of Human Meniscal Transplantation and appointed as an Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London for Sports Sciences.
