From the very first consultation Mr Apthorp listened to my symptoms carefully, explained my X-rays, recommended a hip replacement and talked me through the procedure. My admission went smoothly, all the staff at London Bridge were friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble for them. The anaesthetist was superb and I was awake and fully alert immediately post op and up and walking (sort of) after a few hours. Pain control was excellent and I was home 48 hours later. The scar is not much more than three inches long, meaning far less soft tissue trauma than with a longer wound. I was walking around the kitchen without crutches within a week and pretty much discarded the crutches completely within three weeks. Range of movement in the hip improved rapidly and I was able to do movements the hip had not done for more than a year within a month. I now have a completely new lease of life. Clearly I was in the hands of an extremely skilful surgeon and throughout I felt confident in him and that confidence has been fully born out. Thank you Mr Apthorp.

From the moment I met Mr Apthorp, I felt at ease and knew I had chosen the finest surgeon to do my hip replacement. At that time, I had no knowledge of minimally invasive hip replacement surgery and left the consultation elated in the knowledge that I would regain my mobility swiftly and there would be no stitches to worry about. My operation was totally without fear, trauma or even apprehension. It went so smoothly that I awoke in Recovery totally alert and perky. I had no pain and the next 48 hours went smoothly with no setbacks and nothing to worry me. I walked the same day and when Mr Apthorp came to see me, I had the pleasure of walking with him. He gave me complete confidence from beginning to end. My hip replace ment surgery went smoothly, with no pain and I felt positive and confident all the way through. I am in awe of the skill of this wonderful surgeon and would urge anyone needing hip replacement surgery to consult Mr Apthorp. Three weeks later I am walking without any aids and have no pain or discomfort and feel very happy.

I was referred to Mr Apthorp by another surgeon for my minimally invasive left hip replacement. He told me Mr Apthorp is the "Surgeon's Surgeon". That was enough for me. I first spoke to Abi who immediately reassured me I was in good hands. When I met with Mr Apthorp he was calm, kind and explained everything clearly. I signed up there and then. I am now 6 weeks post surgery and have just been discharged. I am largely pain-free and very mobile. I cannot recommend Mr Apthorp and his team enough. I had a family bereavement days before my surgery and everyone involved in my care was aware and supportive. I am a new person, this operation has changed my life. Cannot recommend highly enough!
