    About

Mr Henry Atkinson received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1998. He qualified as a Bone and Joint (Trauma and Orthopaedic) Surgeon from 2008. As part of his training he completed renowned fellowships in Adelaide, Australia as well as in Canada and Serbia. His fellowships allowed him to gain extensive expertise in all lower limb surgeries. Mr Atkinson is thus adept and has experience in managing problems of the hip, knee and ankle. He has a particular interest in the management of sporting injuries.

Mr Atkinson regularly lectures in Belgrade, Serbia and gives advice on the design and implementation of research projects.

He is currently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon at North Middlesex University hospital, where he received an NHS Clinical Excellence Award in May 2012.

Known for the energy and enthusiasm he brings to his practice and patients, he balances work with spending time with his wife and young family in the North London area.

Mr Atkinson made me feel very confident that he understood my problem and clearly has an encyclopaedic knowledge of knees! He explained my condition and what could be done to fix it in a very straightforward manner. I was therefore able to understand my options and his recommendations and make an informed choice about my treatment. He made me feel very comfortable before the operation and I was grateful that he explained just what a big and painful experience full knee replacement is. His follow up after the operation has been excellent and I have been very impressed with the way he and physiotherapist kept in touch about my progress.

From start to finish, Dr Atkinson has been nothing short of exceptional. He specifically recommended me a conformis knee replacement, recognising my needs and bow legs. He helpfully explained the full process clearly, demonstrating patience and professionalism throughout. He carried out the operation successfully and has been as supportive post-operation, as he was pre. I highly recommend Dr Atkinson as a surgeon for all those considering similar operations in the future.

I can't speak highly enough of Dr Atkinson, I had my left knee done with him and the change has been unbelievably good, I couldn't be happier. I'm currently awaiting my right knee to have the same surgery and would only have Dr Atkinson do it not only for his professionalism but also his manner and the fact he really goes above and beyond for you.

I saw Mr Atkinson initially in November 2020 with regards to a Medial Meniscus tear in my right knee. This was causing discomfort, especially on bending and also causing my right knee to catch and jar.Mr Atkinson was extremely approachable, polite and friendly. He conducted a thorough range of tests to justify his prognosis. He requested me to have an MRI scan to complete his diagnosis. We discussed the findings and he booked me in for surgery. He performed an Instrumental Medial Arthroscopy and Chondroplasty under General Anaesthetic. I did not experience any discomfort or pain whatsoever post procedure, and did not need to take any pain pain relieving medication subsequently, immediately after or once the Anaesthesia were out.My range of motion was phenomenal after surgery and my mobility was at maximum. There were no jarring or locking out symptoms, and the Arthropathy discomfort I was experiencing had been resolved.Six weeks on now, post surgery, my knee is at it's best and the issue has been completely resolved.I had surgery on the same right knee back in 2013, with Mr Atkinson, to treat Patellar Tendonitis. That was also a phenomenal success, with 100 percent resolution of the issue altogether. I recommend Mr Atkinson extremely highly due to his phenomenal expertise and experience treating lower limb issues, having been under his care for the last 10years, it has been an honour and privilege to be treated by such a patient, welcoming and knowledgeable surgeon. Please consult Mr Atkinson with regards to any lower limb pain issues and adhere to his protocol and he will resolve your issues completely 100%, based on my vast experience of being treated by him over the last 10 years A warm and sincere thank you to you Mr Atkinson for all your advice and care which has benefited my welfare tremendously Dr Dev M.

I am so happy and grateful to have been advised by and operated on by Doctor Atkinson, my knees are now pain free. Doctor Atkinson has a really reassuring approach which puts people at ease instantly. He is entirely dedicated to his patients and in my case was prepared to think outside the box to find the right solution for my wellbeing. Both my surgeries were free of complications and I made speedy recoveries each time.

From the very beginning, albeit, the first consultation had to be a zoom call as a result of the present Covid-19 situation, I felt reassured that all would go smoothly & according to plan. This it did & now six weeks after my hip replacement I am out of pain & walking tall again. (Very tidy scar too) Henry was very attentive, listened well, understood concerns & was extremely professional & caring in all aspects from beginning to end. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others regarding hip to toe problems & have, in fact, done so already. You’ll be in excellent hands. Thank you, Henry.

I had my procedure on the 9th of January by Mr Henry Atkinson. He is one of the best Dr's I have ever come across. I was afraid to have this procedure done however he was very professional and understanding. He explained the procedure to me in detail and made the whole experience comforting. He was very respectful and down to earth and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Mr. Atkinson was referred to me by a friend and am extremely grateful that he took me on. My local authority refused me. Mr. Atkinson stated I was the worst case he had seen in all his years of service. He was able to reconstruct my left hip (28.9.19) and then carry out a total knee replacement (23.1.21). He asked for permission to use my details for a paper on my condition. I find Mr. Atkinson to be polite, gregarious and actively listens to information given. He also took the time to explain to my youngest autistic daughter how he was going to take care of her dad. I am most grateful that he took on in the first place and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He has given me a renewed quality of life.
