Since 2005 Professor Palazzo is clinical lead consultant in endocrine surgery at Hammersmith Hospital, the UK's largest endocrine surgical service. He specialises in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery.
Mr Palazzo qualified in medicine in 1992 and undertook surgical training on the Cambridge in and London rotations. Following 2 years of thyroid research at St Bartholomew's Hospital culminating in a Master of Surgery from University of London he undertook endocrine surgical specialist training in Oxford, Sydney and Marseille. He is one of the UK's highest volume endocrine surgeons having performed (to 2019) over 2200 thyroidectomies, over 2000 parathyroidectomies and over 500 adrenalectomies. Prof Palazzo was conferred the title of Professor by Imperial College in 2019 has a an exclusively an exclusively thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery practice. His main interests are in thyroid cancer, complex and re-operative parathyroid surgery and adrenal surgery. All surgery is minimally invasive when appropriate.
Prof Palazzo teaches at Imperial College, nationally and internationally to postgraduates and is widely published with in excess of 120 peer reviewed papers on all aspects of endocrine disease and surgery. He has also authored guidelines and guidance documents both in the UK and overseas. He represents UK endocrine surgery internationally as UK delegate to the European Society of Endocrine Surgery and as a member of council of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons.
