



Cardiothoracic Surgery
Mr Conal Austin is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and he also sees patients privately, including at The London Bridge Hospital. He graduated from Belfast University in 1986 and then underwent cardiothoracic training from 1990 to 1995 at a number of locations, including Melbourne and Paris.
He was appointed as a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in 1997, where he performs the full complement of paediatric neonatal infant and adult congenital surgical cases. He has particular interest in paediatric valvular conservative repairs, minimal access paediatric cardiac repairs, intra-operative 3D echocardiography, Ross operations and Norwood proceures. A further specalisation is personalised external aortic root support (PEARS).
The PEARS procedure is designed to support dilation of the aorta for those with connective tissue disorders such as Marfans diseas, Loeys Dietz syndrome, Bicupspid aortoapathies or idiopathic aortopathies. Mr Austin also provides surgical expertise in Hypertrophic obstructive cadiomyopathy surgery. Further specialist interests include renal cell tumour with extensive inferior vena cavae involvement, working with urological surgeons for tumour extrication and 'the cone repair', for cases of Ebstein’s malformation of the Tricuspid valve.
