“I was referred to Mr Jenkinson by another surgeon who was unable to assist me because he could not provide the necessary long term follow up. I am very pleased that he did. I have found Mr Jenkinson to be thoroughly professional, candid and realistic. My sleeve surgery in January 2018 went very well and, following his team’s clear advice, I have lost a third of my excess weight in 3 months. I only have one regret which is that I did not seek his advice years ago.“

    About

Mr. Andrew Jenkinson is a general surgeon in Harley Street, London specialising in Bariatric and Laparoscopic procedures. His interests include surgery for weight loss and diabetes, acid reflux disease, gallstones, hernia repair and surgical emergencies. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and holds a Master of Surgery title for his research thesis. He is a member of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity, the Association of Upper GI Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Mr. Jenkinson is passionate about upholding the highest levels of professionalism, care and integrity for his patients. He was inspired to a career in surgery from an early age and qualified from Medical School at 23. He undertook a rigorous residency and fellowship training program over 10 years including placements at the world-renowned Hammersmith Hospital, Royal London Hospital and University College London Hospital. His interest in surgical research was stimulated by the Master of Surgery thesis in the field of laparoscopic surgery for acid reflux. He has subsequently published over 50 research papers and presentations. He has been actively involved with training junior surgeons in the UK, Europe, America and the Gulf. His experience and knowledge in surgery mean he is highly sought after for his medico-legal opinion and is regularly asked to be an expert witness.

His first consultancy post was at the Homerton Hospital NHS Trust in East London. Here he oversaw commissioning and governance and rapidly built up the bariatric unit to become the largest NHS provider in London. In 2008 he moved to University College London Hospital, part of UCL, where he headed up the surgical bariatric service and transformed efficiency by introducing enhanced recovery protocols and decreasing ICU admissions. During his first 3 years at UCLH he oversaw an increase in the number of procedures performed from less than 100 per year to 350 per year.

In April 2017 Mr Jenkinson began work on a book explaining weight regulation and metabolism for patients suffering with obesity. The book , "Why We Eat (Too Much)", was published by Penguin in January 2020 and has gone on to become a critically aclaimed Sunday Times and Amazon bestseller.

I had the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with Mr Jenkinson. My first consult was in mid November 2016 and I was walked through the procedure and given the pros and cons. My surgery was on the 30th of the same month and I am LOVING my sleeve. Thank you Mr Jenkinson for a really amazing experience to a scary but worth journey!

Excellent consultant found Mr Jenkinson to be honest, gave me and my husband clear explanation on my surgery, understood my journey with constant dieting which was affecing health issues. Mr Jenkinson made me feel at ease, answering all my queries and concerns which enable be to go through with surgery with a clear mind, realistic expectation on weight loss. Without his input and support, I would not be at this stage today, a much more happier, confident person. I am extremely pleased with weight loss, and please that I had such an understanding and caring consultant.

I found Mr Jenkinson to be a fantastic surgeon before and after my gastric bypass operation. His advice and information pre op was clear and straight forward and he put me at ease and addressed my concerns professionally. He visited me in my room the day after the op and was warm and empathetic. My operation was nearly six months ago and I’ve recovered well and adjusted to my new life without any unexpected or unexplained problems. I would highly recommend Mr Jenkinson to anyone considering weight loss surgery, it’s a life changing and life enhancing operation and I felt perfectly safe and reassured under the care of Mr Jenkinson and his team.

My experience of Mr Jenkinson & his team has been outstanding. I contacted Mr Jenkinson after a poor experience with a different private hospital. From the moment I had a my first conversation with Nathalie the process has been seamless, rapid & most importantly high quality. The experience in the hospital was first rate, high quality care & I felt like I received the best of attention. I cannot recommend Mr Jenkinson & his team more highly. 7wks on and the results are already life changing. I am delighted.

I first met Mr Richardson in January 2017 to discuss weight loss surgery. Having previously had a Gastric Band (removed 3 years earlier) I was apprehensive. Andrew very quickly put my mind at ease, discussed the benefits of each of the options open to me in an honest and transparent way. Having armed me with the information I was then able to make the right choice, with zero pressure. He operated on me in March and to date I have had no complications and lost over 38kilos. My surgery was pain free within less than 48 hours and scarring minimised. Andrew comes across with a combination of real optimism and integrity as well as giving you the feeling you are in the hands of a genuine leader in the field. A huge thank you from me!

Mr Jenkison has performed laparoscopic hiatus hernia operation on me at Wellington Hospital, London on May'17. He is professional, accessible, attentive, and incredibly skilled. He has kindly allowed me to watch the video recording of the procedure. I was mesmerized by the precision movements of the laparoscopic instruments which could not have been possible without the expertise refined by over 1500 operations. I will be eternally grateful to those hands.

Mr Jenkinson put me at ease from the first appointment. He wasn’t judgemental, listened and advised accordingly. The operation was a success – just as he said it would be and that classic line of “it has changed my life” comes to mind as it really has! No more on going medication is required, and I am down two dress sizes. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Jenkinson.

Mr Jenkinson put me at ease the moment I met him. He has a wondeful non-judgemental attitude and really understands the issues around obesity. My whole experience from start to finish was excellent. He has quite literally changed my life and I wish I had found him sooner. I must add that his PA is a joy to deal with too.

As a doctor myself I try to choose the best both for my patients, myself and my family. I have been referring patients to Mr Jenkinson for many years and the feedback from my patients has always been superb. When I became a patient myself he was the obvious choice for me. There was no wait at all, the service provided was absolutely outstanding and the results amazing! I will continue to recommend him to my patients as my number one choice!

October 2015 I weighed 18 stone 3lbs - it's now April 2017 and I weigh 9 stone 11lbs. The journey not entirely been a piece of cake... some tricks had to be learned along the way and occasionally it's been tricky, but it's a magical path all the same, as I've dropped from size 24 to size 12. I have more energy, I no longer require medication, and people say I look amazing - which is no bad thing to hear. Andrew has been there with me from the start, and available when I needed him. He's always been kind and professional, and I certainly don't regret having had a gastric bypass. Certainly I would recommend him to anyone who is unhappy with being obese, as I once was. A new life awaits.

When I booked my appointment with Mr Jenkinson. I was very nervous . I had researched thoroughly for 6 months & my choice came down to the fact he had operated on my friend before me.( who was also very happy) I asked and volunteered to have the op. I liked he wasn't trying to sell it to me like a second hand car dealer as many others had tried when I enquired.. he is very professional and great in his field. He is not just interested in making money like many other companies that advertised. I felt in the best of hands. And haven't looked back. The only criticism was that the post sent by his office secretary was not sealed privately when sent to my address. And the nutritionist has not been that interested in my progress. I do not regret my decision and would do it again woth Mr Jenkinson.

One of the luckiest days of my life was finding Andrew Jenkinson - I was immediately put at ease. I knew I had found the right surgeon. From the beginning, I have known exactly what to expect with the added benefit of knowing what was happening all the time. A huge bonus is the support I have received from Andrew and his team - always there to answer questions and never made to feel a 'pest'!

Thank you for fixing my post hernia surgery infections that I had picked up due to two failed Hernia surgeries that I had done in India. My condition was going from bad to worse until you started treating me in London at the BMI hospital, after which my health condition improved. I am forever grateful to you, for your medical expertise and professional nature.

I want to say thank you to Mr Jenkinson as without his team and operating skills I have no doubt that I wouldn't be here writing this with passion. So if you have the willpower and commitment then I guarantee that this is for you. For a man to have a new lease of life and normal habits again, this is the surgery to save people's lives after eating the wrong foods and going to an early grave. Mr Jenkinson is the best man for having bariatric surgery and will make you feel alive again and give you a second chance to live a new, healthy life.
