Mr Amer Khan was educated at Kings College London where he gained a 1st class honours in Physiology and Exercise Medicine before qualifying in 1994. He undertook higher surgical training in orthopaedics in South West England before completing subspecialist fellowship training in Shoulder surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital & Knee surgery at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital.

He was awarded the prestigious British Orthopaedic Association European Travelling Fellowship, gaining further subspecialist training working with pioneers in arthroscopic Knee, Shoulder and Hip surgery in Ghent, Lyon, Annecy, Nice and Toulouse before embarking on further fellowships in the USA and other European Centres of Excellence.

Later he was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports knee, shoulder and hip injuries in 2010 at the Homerton University Hospital, where he was clinical lead for the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics and Joint Clinical Lead for Sports & Exercise Medicine.

His extensive career ranges to the London 2012 Olympic Games, where Mr Khan was a selected member of the knee team and provided acute care to injured athletes. He treated a number of athletes and performed their surgery at the Homerton University Hospital (designated hospital for the London 2012 Games). He coordinated the provision of a highly specialised multidisciplinary approach to their care securing their return to elite professional sport. Mr Khan continues to treat professional and semi-professional athletes from all disciplines as well as sports & fitness enthusiasts.

As a highly trained surgeon and sports arthroscopist (keyhole surgeon) working within a multidisciplinary team, he is particularly apt in avoiding surgery where appropriate. His expertise includes ACL reconstruction and novel ACL repair techniques, meniscal and cartilage preservation and replacement surgery, all ligament surgery including revision and all arthroscopic procedures to the shoulder and hip as well as Knee & Shoulder Joint Replacement Surgery.
