Mr. Malik is an incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, honest, competent, and caring surgeon who went out of his way to educate me in my treatment, while providing the highest standard of care. I underwent surgery for a 1st MTP Joint Fusion on my right foot on 16th February 2018. I was admitted to the Chiltern Hospital as a Day Patient. Prior to this I had visited Mr. Malik several times; he ensured I was given all information I needed to know in order to make a decision whether or not to have the operation. He was extremely patient and was able to explain in ‘layman’s’ terms what the operation would entail and the likely immediate symptoms and longer term considerations and now, 8 weeks after the operation I can confirm that he was right on the ball. On the day of the surgery Mr. Malik came to see me and again explained the procedure and asked me whether I had any questions. His extensive knowledge alongside his personable and agreeable approach really put me at ease and I felt I was in safe hands. Mr. Malik visited me again after the operation and reiterated instructions for when I returned home. I was prescribed pain killers and surgical stockings which I had to wear (bear) overnight due to a previous DVT. It was difficult, at first, to negotiate essential daily tasks on ‘one leg’ however, a friend had organised a ‘Stride-On’ for me and I had purchased a shower stool which I would highly recommend for anybody having this surgery – after a few days I was whizzing around on the ‘Stride On’ and putting no pressure at all on my foot. Mr. Malik prescribed Codeine to manage the pain and told me that I could also take Paracetamol however, after a couple of days I stopped taking the Paracetamol and after 6 days stopped taking the Codeine. For a successful recovery it is important to follow Mr. Malik’s instructions; being an active person I did struggle mentally with having to sit my foot elevated for 2 weeks however, I did as I was told and was extremely pleased to see how well my foot had healed two weeks later, on 06th March when the dressings were taken off. At this appointment Mr. Malik instructed me to keep my foot elevated the majority of the time and not to weight bear for at least another 4 weeks – again, the ‘Stride On’ helped me to manage some of the small tasks I felt more ‘up to’. I was always careful not to over-do it, I did not want to hamper my recovery in any way. I didn’t get on at all with the crutches, my balance is shot away. I returned to Mr. Malik on 09th April in trainers having been weight bearing for about a week. My foot and toe were still a little swollen but the scar had completely healed and I was in no pain at all. Mr. Malik was also pleased with my recovery. I am so pleased with the outcome of this operation and can absolutely recommend Mr. Malik to anybody who is considering this surgery or any other foot/ankle surgery who is able to access his services.

I had a subtalar ankle fusion last February at The Shelburne Hospital. Mr Malik was upfront and very clear about the complexity of the surgery, however I felt completely reassured and knew if I did as he said I would get the best outcome. Mr Malik was always contactable with any concerns I had which was much appreciated, I have never been able to have that sort of contact with a consultant before but it really made a difference to my recovery. A year on my foot has no pain whatsoever and I am able to walk, run and cycle as I did prior to my arthritis. Should I ever need foot/ankle surgery again I would hope Mr Malik would be able to undertake it and would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.

After breaking my left ankle 4 years and being operated on by Dr Malik, i was so happy with the results and recovery, that when It happened again to the other ankle, I wanted him to treat me again. Again the post x-rays look great (according to my cardio surgeon brother), and am hoping for a similar recovery. Am told it is more severe than last time and it’s early days yet but the signs so far are good. What I admire about Dr Malik, other than the outcome he has produced, is his can do attitude, ability to put me at ease, to answer my endless questions and concerns, even when out of hours, backed up with links to the relevant literature online. It’s still early days on this 2nd occasion but am confident he is advising me on the best course of treatment and recovery, following successful surgery, Thanks again

Having been told weeks previously that nothing could be done for a fractured toe which was becoming increasingly painful and making walking very difficult I arranged for a consultation with Mr Malik. After an x-ray, Mr Malik advised me to wear a Darco post-op shoe for 6 - 8 weeks. He was extremely pleasant and asked me to email him to let him know how I got on. Simple advice but spot-on and invaluable. Following Mr Malik's advice my foot has healed and I am delighted to be able to walk pain-free again. Very grateful thanks.

It is now 5 months since Mr Malik rejoined my achilles tendon. So far (touch wood) it has been very good but my big breakthrough came when I went to my house in France for a month. The walking there is rough and up-and-down and the exercise gave me both confidence in the repair and also exercised it quite a lot. I get a little discomfort from time to time but there is never any pain and, after starting cycling on the road a week ago, have experienced only a good feeling and increased confidence in it. I still don’t do anything stupid as I am sure it is not as strong nor as flexible as it should be, but it is coming along beautifully. Very many thanks to Mr Malik's skill and application.

It took me 10 years to summon up the courage to have surgery on my severely arthritic left big toe and arthritic joint. I worked with colleagues for whom this operation had not been successful. ..but they didn't have Mr. Malik as their surgeon! I had immediate confidence in Mr. Malik. As well as being an excellent surgeon , it was immediately obvious that he also cared deeply about his patients. Having talked me through the xrays he told me that "a picture paints a thousand words and your xray is giving me a very clear message ". I decided to go ahead with the operation and knew that I was in safe, experienced and caring hands. I had the op last March and did exactly as advised. His website gave excellent advice and was an invaluable source of information and guidance. Mr Malik saw me regularly during check ups and also kept in telephone contact. Last week I hiked across part of the Viking Way in Lincolnshire. Hiking is very much my social life and I had been concerned that I might not be able to continue following surgery...but the op was a total success and I'm able to hike across challenging terrain with a pain free foot. I can also wear attractive shoes again! I only wish I had met this wonderful surgeon years ago and that my colleagues had had the benefit of his knowledge and skills. I can recommend Mr Malik. His expertise has changed my life for the better. You too can have total confidence . My advice would be to put yourself in his hands and go to go ahead with his recommendations. Bronwen Hughes

As the son of a consultant physician, I was brought up to understand that a significant part of a patient's successful recovery takes place "between the ears". My father taught me that a good doctor manages that particular space clearly and factually, yet sympathetically, blending professionalism with empathy. Ahmad Malik is a consultant my late father would very much have approved of. His face-to-face explanations have been clear and positive, yet realistic. Post-consultation he has responded fully to my emails, and even took it upon himself to phone me in his own time in order to clarify the treatment options open to me with my wife. Somewhat to my (pleasant) surprise, the initial recommendation was for treatment by way of image guided injection, rather than surgery, and this has worked wonders to date. Will this prove to be a permanent resolution? Time will tell. If not, will surgery provide the permanent "fix"? Who knows… There are no certainties, but I have every confidence that the very best outcome that is possible will be achieved under Mr Malik's care and guidance. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone requiring specialist ankle / foot diagnosis and treatment.

Right medal malleolar osteotomy and deltoid ligament reconstruction After years of ankle injuries playing sport, I was left with a large spur of bone in my right ankle which had begun to reduce my range of movement and was causing discomfort and reduced mobility. As a busy professional and young(ish) father, mobility, exercise and quality of life were still high on the agenda as well as aspirations of growing older gracefully and unimpeded. Mr Malik came highly recommended. Once the problem was diagnosed by Mr Malik, the surgery was explained clearly and I was directed to additional online materials which helped me to understand further what was going to happen, understanding the detail provided a lot of comfort. The surgery was complex, yet by following all of Mr Malik's advice, I was up and about and back to work within 6 weeks of the surgery. The results of the operation feel almost miraculous. The scar healed beautifully and I feel like I have a new ankle. My physiotherapy is ahead of schedule and I am soon to commence personal training organised through Mr Malik to help me run again. The prospect of surgery can be daunting but having been through it with Mr Malik I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his skill and his support.

Mr Malik was both confident and reassuring from the initial diagnosis of a full Achilles' Tendon rupture in my right leg, through to the complete recovery plan and physio recommendations. I was expecting to require surgery to repair the tendon, since I had this course of action at another clinic/consultant for a similar left leg injury, but Mr Malik advised me that surgery was not necessary in this case. It was great advice and I'm now fully on the road to recovery. His continued follow up has been fantastic.

I have seen Mr Ahmad Malik at the Chiltern Hospital on two occasions in the last few weeks. - and have been thoroughly impressed with both his utter professionalism - and the way in which he explained to me the issues with my ankle. His whole approach was first class.
