    About

Miss Nicola Roche graduated in 1989 from Trinity College, Dublin. She was initially appointed a consultant at The Royal Free Hospital in 2002 but moved to the Royal Marsden in 2006 where she was a consultant till August 2020.   She continues to see private patients at The Royal Marsden Hospital but no longer has an NHS practice there. In addition she sees patients at The Lister Hospital and Chelsea Out Patients. All her clinics are "one-stop" assessment clinics with radiology and biopsy as appropriate, supported by a breast care nurse.

She provides an oncoplastic approach to surgery, which combines plastic surgical techniques with oncological principles. She works in close collaboration with expert Medical Oncology, Genetic and Plastic Surgical Colleagues. She has regularly featured in Tatler's top 250 consultants.

She is a trustee and meetings secretary of the Association of Breast Surgery, She also sits on the Breast Clinical Expert Group which advises the NHS on best practice for breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and care.

In Jan 2020 I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS (scattered calcification on my right breast and nipple area however no lump was located.) I received a first opinion from a high qualified specialist, however the advice to have a mastectomy was distressing to me and I therefore wished to have a second opinion. I spoke with my GP of 15+ years, who recommend Nicola Roche and when I did my own research I found out that she was a DCIS specialist. I had a consultation with Nicola Roche in August 2020 for a second opinion. I found Nicola Roche to be extremely factual, straightforward, professional and empathetic. She suggested I have a lumpectomy and retrain my nipple. I considered both my 1st and 2nd opinions, I was somewhat confused at this stage due to my own research also, however I made the decision to proceed with Nicola's recommendation. Nicola Roche has an incredible team around her at the Lister Hospital especially her assistant nurse Alison, who really helped me make my decision with confidence and had the Lumpectomy in October. I was astonished at how painless the whole procedure was, from the moment I walked into the Lister Hospital and left with same day, the whole procedure took 4hours. After the surgery the next 3-5 days were no pain at all. I was kept informed the whole way through. I am delighted to say it was a complete success, all the DCIS was removed with clear margins, I retained my nippled and the way the Nicola operated on me I have no scar just tiny area around my nipple (this is still healing 19days after) she reshaped my breast tissue and I have no dent. I am most grateful to Nicola because she strongly advised me to the lumpectomy and to have the danger it removed, as previously I wanted to monitor it. After the lumpectomy was tested at the lab, it was diagnosed that the DCIS had changed into micro invasive cancer cells and therefore Nicola's diagnosis and treatment plan was completely accurate and potentially life saving. I do now believe from my own experience that she is an expert in her field and I can highly recommend her. She kept to her word and never let me down!

My experience was excellent with Miss Roche. From the first appointment onwards, everything was meticulously explained in a calm and authoritative manner. All my concerns and questions were addressed and I felt very confident in her and with the information she gave me. Whenever I left a message to speak to her, Miss Roche always called back that day. My surgery went so well and the following day I was lifting my arm and had no pain whatsoever and had minimal scaring. Miss Roche also made time to speak with my husband on the day of surgery to inform him all went well and answered all the questions he had. This was extremely comforting for him. The next day Miss Roche visited me in hospital in the morning to check me over and explain what I should do if I had any pain etc etc. I would highly recommend Miss Roche.
