Miss Marianne Sampson has been a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgeon since 2009. Having performed over 1,000 laparoscopic cholecystectomies and 500 laparoscopic hernia repairs, Miss Sampson is a specialist in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for gallstone and gastrointestinal reflux (GERD) disease and hernias, as well as weight loss surgery. She has a particular interest in gallbladder disease, laparoscopic hernia surgery, anti-reflux procedures and bariatric surgery. She has also developed an interest in revisional procedures and follow up programmes, for patients to maximise the benefit of their bariatric surgery. She is an experienced endoscopist and endoscopic trainer, offering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Miss Sampson qualified from the University of Cambridge Medical School in 1996, undertaking her higher surgical training from 2002-2009 in the North East Thames region, including Barts and the London Trust, University College Hospital and Colchester hospital, during which time she did a fellowship at the National Cancer Centre, Tokyo as the recipient of the Cutlers Surgical Prize. She has been involved in developing the bariatric surgical services in Reading.

Marianne is an excellent surgeon with expertise in Upper GI and weight loss surgery. She is a very adept operator with consistently good patient outcomes. She gives thoughtful advise, with a patient centered approach, to achieve what is best for the individual.
Ms Sampson is a highly qualified and skilled General, Upper GI and Bariatric surgeon. She is an expert in laparoscopic and Robotic surgical techniques and has helped pioneer Robotic Bariatric surgery in the UK over the last few years. She works as part of a highly professional and dedicated surgical consortium - Thames Valley General Surgery - and provides care to patients in the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire regions. Her work with Optimise Weight loss (a part of Thames Valley General Surgery) extends her practice in to London, at the world renowned Princess Grace Hospital.
