Miss Cecilia Bottomley is a Consultant Gynaecologist. She works within the NHS at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), a world-renowned research hospital. Miss Bottomley also sees patients privately at Claire Mellon & Associates (within the Portland Hospital).
Her specialist areas include general gynaecology, early pregnancy, emergency gynaecology, minimal access surgery, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, gynaecological ultrasound, ovarian cysts, pelvic disorders including gynaecological pain, menstrual disorders, menopause and postmenopausal bleeding.
She is an experienced surgeon, focusing on surgery for miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy, minimal access laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.
Cecilia has a number of research interests, including pelvic pain, early pregnancy, the diagnosis and prediction of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. She is also closely involved in training and has authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers, two books and contributed invited chapters to multiple other texts.
After graduation from Cambridge University in 1994, Cecilia undertook her clinical training at Guys and Thomas’ Hospitals. She subsequently completed a research fellowship at the University of London studying the prediction of early pregnancy loss. She now supervises research fellows and continues to contribute to gynaecology research.
Cecilia strongly believes in sound diagnostic techniques and evidence based treatments, though always taking account of lifestyle factors and general wellbeing which affect and are also affected by a woman’s gynaecological health.
