Julie Moore (nee Backley) works with Dr James Hull at The Institute of Sport Exercise and Health where they run a specialist clinic for the the management of respiratory issues in athletes. She has 20 years of respiratory experience and specifically helps athletes with breathing pattern disorders.
She qualified with a BSc Hons degree in physiotherapy from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1993.
In 1999, she took on a consultant post at Kings College Hospital in London. She started a successful hospital pulmonary rehabilitation programme and went on to develop one of the first community pulmonary rehabilitation services in the UK.
In 2005, Julie completed her Masters in Physiotherapy and published research on exercising patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Since then, she has continued to help patients with a variety of respiratory diseases including asthma, bronchiectasis, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis.
Julie is a committee member of the UK physiotherapy for breathing pattern disorders, she is a Buteyko practitioner and BradCliff breathing specialist and she lectures around the UK, helping physiotherapists develop their knowledge in the management of hyperventilation and disordered breathing patterns.
