Mr Jahangir Ahmed, Consultant ENT is currently based at Bart’s and UCLH NHS Trusts. He specialises in thyroid surgery, laryngology, and head and neck surgery. Additionally, he is the current lead ENT clinician at The Royal London Hospital and is a member of the regional head, neck and thyroid cancer MDTs.
Mr Ahmed began his medical education at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London in which he graduated with a Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery in 2001. During this time he was also awarded a Gold Medal in Pathology. He then went on to gain a Master’s in experimental psychology from the University of Cambridge. Following this he went on to do a research degree examining how viruses can be used for cancer immunotherapy, he was awarded a PhD in molecular oncology in 2015 for his work. Following this he completed his Higher Specialist Training in surgery in several renowned London hospitals including St Bart’s, Charing Cross, The Royal London, and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He is a highly skilled surgeon being one of the core surgeons for the Barts Health Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). He is one of a few doctors in the UK that can perform neck dissection in patients with advanced thyroid cancer. Moreover, he is highly skilled in transoral (through mouth, scarless) procedures using laser and robotic techniques. On top of this he runs a tertiary level practise for the surgical management of sleep breathing issues including snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. With reports showing huge success in the treatment of patients with sleep apnoea. He has also performed a high volume of advanced endoscopic sinus surgeries using state of the art techniques.
He has a significant research history and has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and over 12 book chapters in highly respectable journals and textbooks. He is also regularly invited to present his finding at international conferences. He continues to contribute to medical education holding the position of clinical lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. He also hold a PGC in medical education and is co-lead of Bart’s health education. He is also a faculty member on several ENT instructional courses based in London.
