He is currently based at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children. He specialises in ambulatory paediatrics, newborn baby checks, feeding problems, gastro-oesophageal reflux, food sensitivities, growth & development; asthma & respiratory problems, skin conditions, immunisations and behavioural problems.
Dr Smyth graduated from the University of Queensland in 1969. He was awarded a fellowship by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 1995 and a further fellowship form the Royal College of Physicians London in 1994. He has worked as a Consultant Neonatologist at the King George V Hospital in Sydney and also as a lecturer and Senior Registrar Kings College Hospital. In 1989 he was appointed as a senior consultant paediatrician at The Portland Hospital, where he is still based.
In addition to his clinical work he was the chairman of the Paediatric subcommittee at The Portland Hospital and also served as president of the Paediatric Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. He has recently taken up an additional role as Chief Medical Officer at The Fysh Practice and Embryocare Future Family Insurance.
