Dr. Lockie is Cardiologist based in London, UK.
He went to University College School in North London and trained in medicine at Edinburgh University. During this time he undertook an intercalated degree in psychology gaining First Class honours. Following graduation, he worked at the Old Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh before moving to London for his specialist cardiology training at St Thomas'. With an interest in ischaemic heart disease and re-perfusion he undertook a PhD at KCL, winning the Young Investigator Prize at SCMR in the United States. He specializes in advanced stenting and percutaeous coronary interventions (PCI) and was awarded a Fellowship from the European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (EAPCI) to spend a year at the prestigious Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. He then completed his PCI training back at St. Thomas’ in London. In 2013 he was appointed as a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust. In 2019 Dr Lockie was appointed Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science at UCL.
Dr Lockie specialises in complex PCI and stenting procedures for blocked coronary arteries including primary angioplasty for acute heart attacks, intravascular imaging and coronary physiology. He is the clinical lead for coronary revascularisation at the Royal Free Heart Attack Centre. He also has responsibility in education and maintaining the institutional databases for heart attacks and PCI. He sits on the national advisory board for the British Cardiac Society, representing the North Central London region.
He regularly teaches and lectures at conferences and seminars, including the international faculty of the European Society of Cardiology. He is also local principle investigator for several large, multi-centre clinical trials examining: novel stents; PCI in heart failure; PCI in cardiogenic shock; renal protection during coronary interventions; coronary flow and pressure measurements during PCI. In recognition of academic and clinical excellence Dr Lockie was recently elected a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).
Dr. Lockie believes in a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the treatment of patients with cardiac problems. This involves utilising the latest and most sophisticated investigations and treatments, but also always listening to the patient and carefully discussing their clinical problems. It is essential to ensure that the patient’s needs and concerns are at the centre of any management plan.
