



Paediatrics (children's doctor)
Dr Simon Bignall is Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at the St Mary’s and The Portland Hospital. He is a leading expert in neonatal care and developed many life-support systems for babies, including a new technique to help babies in need of assisted breathing. He has a special interest in clinical care in infants in their first year of life.
He gained his first medical degree at Barts in London, before completing his specialist training at Kings College Hospital, London and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He returned to the UK to do research on the physiology of sick new-borns at St Mary’s as a Senior Research Fellow, He became a consultant at St Mary’s, London in 1990 and completed his MD in 1991. He is the Director of Neonatology at The Portland Hospital and treats babies in Intensive Care there and at St. Mary's. He regularly contributed to debates on the welfare of children and provides medical advisory services to health commentators and professional bodies.
