About

Important note with regard to the COVID 19 Pandemic:

We understand how it feels to be locked-in during this difficult and stressful time. To support patients we are offering video consultations to all patients at flexible times at short notice and this is authorised by all insurance providers. Our team also offers physiotherapy via video consultations and we are able to offer interventions quickly for 'low risk' patients at safe premises in London. We will risk assess all patients prior to this.

Dr. Ramaswamy is a consultant in Anaesthesia, Pain Management and Neuromodulation at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospital and is the clinical lead for in-patient pain managent at Royal London Hospital as well as for the Newham MSK collaboration. He is the Undergraduate and Postgraduate education lead at Bart’s Health and Queen Mary University of London. He also holds a honorary visiting senior lecturer position at the University of Edinburgh. He is a course director for the MSc in Pain management at the University of Edinburgh.

He earned his MD in Anaesthesia (Medal scholar) from one of the premier postgraduate medical educational centres, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India.

He received further anaesthetic training from The South East Scotland rotation in the UK after which he earned a certificate of Specialist Training in Anaesthesia and Pain Management in 2014. He also took an Advanced Pain Fellowship in London, at Imperial Healthcare.

During his work, he involves himself with outpatients as well as inpatients alongside clinics, as well as complex pain ward rounds and various interventions. Dr. Ramaswamy, over the years has gained vast experience in managing different acute pain as well as chronic pain conditions such as back pain, neck pain, post-surgical pain, chronic musculoskeletal (such as Fibromyalgia) and neuropathic pain, headache, facial pain, abdomen-pelvic pain, sports injury, whiplash injury and cancer pain.

During the consultation, Dr.Ramaswamy devises a treatment plan centred on the patient's interests and needs. He is a strong advocate of educating the patient about their condition and advices them regarding self-management approaches, which should help patients manage their pain in the longer term. He also offers advice on pain medications and on pain interventions as deemed appropriate. He is part of a larger multidisciplinary team comprising of a wide array of specialists including orthopaedic surgeons and allied specialists such as physiotherapists. He regularly seeks their input to offer the best available expert treatment for his patients.

Through his top-notch intervention skills, he offers simple and complex pain procedures. These include Cervical and Lumbar facet joint/ medial branch injections, Epidural/ root block (all spinal levels including cervical- thoracic and lumbar levels, Radiofrequency treatment to medial branch/ nerve roots (all spinal levels) or peripheral nerves, complex pain interventions such as splanchnic nerve block, Ultrasound-guided interventions (both anaesthetic nerve blocks and complex pain interventions including MSK interventions), Regenerative medicine, Advanced Laser therapies including discectomy and Neuromodulation (including spinal cord stimulation and peripheral neuro-stimulation).

His intervention expertise spans from X-ray guided to ultrasound interventions and for various general as well as an orthopaedic anaesthetic procedures with specific proficiency in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks such as inserting nerve catheters.
