    About

Dr Sean Preston is a London-based gastroenterologist specialising in the treatment of heartburn, irritable bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and endoscopy of the oesophagus, stomach, and colon. As the director of endoscopy at Barts Health NHS Trust, Dr Preston has significant expertise in all areas of gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound; he is also an accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. At London Digestive Health, he works with a clinical team of gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, radiologists and dieticians from other London Teaching Hospitals.

Dr Preston is an advocate of gut health and uses diet, pre- and probiotics in order to achieve optimal bowel conditions. Dr Preston takes a patient-centred approach to his practice and ensures that patients have adequate time during their consultations to thoroughly explain their symptoms and understand any treatment options suggested. He has previously featured in the Tatler Doctors Guide of Britain's top 250 consultants.

Dr Preston gained his initial medical qualification from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and went on to complete his PhD at Cancer Research UK in London. Following this, he pursued a senior endoscopy fellowship in Sydney before completing specialist gastroenterology training at the Royal London Hospital. Dr Preston has written numerous papers and chapters in books on GI cancer and is currently conducting research into Barrett’s oesophagus. He is also the Chair of Digestive Diseases and Renal Department at HCA Healthcare UK.

It is important that HCA is transparent about our relationship with those doctors who provide us with clinical guidance on delivering the best possible care to patients and operating our hospitals safely and efficiently. We set out here some of the ways in which we work together and the amount we pay this doctor for such services.
