



Gastroenterology
Dr Sameer Zar is a consultant gastroenterologist practising at the Royal Marsden NHS Hospital and at Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust, where he is currently lead for Upper GI Cancer.
His specialist clinical interests include upper and lower GI cancer, IBS, Crohn’s and colitis, reflux disease, Barrett’s oesophagus and pancreas and liver disorders, treating and managing patients with these conditions. He is a recognised expert in colonoscopy, endoscopy and ERCP, and runs a GI physiology laboratory and specialist hepatitis service at the St Helier Hospital. He also offers oesophageal manometry and pH studies. Dr Zar underwent his postgraduate training in gastroenterology and general medicine in 2005 in the South West Thames Scheme. As part of his training, he undertook a PhD on the topic of food-specific serum antibodies and the effect of food on bowel motility in irritable bowel syndrome.
He has an interest in academic research, having published a number of articles in peer-reviewed international journals. As well as English Dr Zar can speak Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi with his patients in the clinic.
