    About

Dr Sam Dawkins is a cardiologist specialising in general cardiology, interventional cardiology and structural intervention, including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip), PFO closure and left atrial appendage occlusion. He has expertise in cardiac CT and echocardiography offering a comprehensive service for both diagnosis and treatment. He can offer face-to-face, telephone and video consultations.

He trained in London and Oxford and then spent two years working at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, the busiest valve centre in the United States. He is one of the UK’s most experienced mitral valve operators, with expertise in percutaneous mitral valve repair and replacement. He also regularly trains other cardiologists in these procedures around the world.

He has a very broad experience in TAVI, with particular expertise in complex situations, including patients with previous aortic valve replacement or challenging vascular access.

He is the clinical lead for structural intervention in Oxford, with a busy practice consisting of coronary intervention, TAVI, MitraClip, closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO), atrial septal defect (ASD), left atrial appendage occlusion, closure of paravalvular leaks and cardiac CT.

Within seconds of meeting Dr Dawkins I felt relaxed, he could tell I was extremely nervous and immediately reassured me. His kind, considerate manner definitely helped me feel more comfortable. I couldn't fault his explanation of the procedure, making sure I understood every part of the process. The whole team were very caring and continually made me feel at ease. I can't thank Dr Dawkins and his team enough - I feel I've been given a new lease of life. The whole experience has been incredibly positive! Thank you!

Dr Dawkins provided an outstanding service throughout my care, I would highly recommend him to anyone. Dr Dawkins took the time to provide me with a detailed breakdown of the treatment including risk factors with associated probability of them occurring and remedial steps for resolution. In addition the after surgery care was top draw.

    Paravalvular Leak Closure
As a patient with multiple long-term conditions and extensive use of healthcare services I have a lifetime experience of meeting and being cared for by high quality and compassionate clinicians. For me, it is really important that those treating me not only have the clinical expertise but also recognise the individual’s requirements and communicate in a way that is clear, professional and reassuring. I was referred to Sam Dawkins for a paravalvular leak closure. In my opinion, Sam’s clinical expertise is without doubt absolutely excellent and ‘cutting edge’ seeking to provide the best clinical improvement and outcome for me. The treatment and care that Sam provided was exactly what I was seeking because he took the time to engage with me, listen, understand my wishes and agree a treatment approach that was personalised to me. Throughout my care under Sam his clinical expertise ‘shone through’, along with his passion and desire to improve my health and his engaging manner in providing a patient centred approach. I truly felt that Sam took on board my hopes and expectations, balanced it with his clinical knowledge and experience, and ultimately persevered during a technical procedure to deliver the outcomes we hoped for. I have no hesitation in endorsing Sam for his clinical expertise and his professionalism in engaging with patients. I would not hesitate to recommend Sam to other patients who may require similar interventional cardiology procedures.
