



Cardiology
Prof Rakhit qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medcial School (Imperial College London) with a first class honours intercalated Bsc in Pharmacology. He completed post-graduate training in cardiology and general (internal) medicine at the Hsmmersmith, Royal Brompton and St.Mary's hospitals obtaining his CCT in 2003. He was a Wellcome Clinical Research Fellow at The Rayne Institute, St.Thomas's hospital (Kings College London) completing his MD thesis on the role of nitric oxide in ischaemic pre-conditioning. He was British Heart Foundation International Fellow at the Swiss Cardiovascular Centre Bern completing an advanced clinical and research fellowship in interventional cardiology. He was appointed to consultant interventional cardiologist at the Royal Free hospital in 2004. As a senior consultant he has held leadership roles including clinical director of cardiology and is currently the divisional director of CardioVascular Services. He has been actively involved in teaching and research at UCL having supervised a number of MD and PhD fellows. In 2020 he was appointed to honorary professor of Cardiology in the Institute of Cardiovascular science, UCL.
