Dr. Robert Sarkany is Consultant Dermatologist and the Head of the Photodermatology and Xeroderma Pigmentosum Units at St John's Institute of Dermatology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital , London. He is an experienced Dermatologist for skin diseases of all types in children and adults. He specialises in skin rashes, skin cancer, sun sensitivity and ultraviolet light therapy.
Dr Sarkany graduated from the University of London with a bachelor’s degree, a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and a Doctorate. He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003. He was previously Consultant Dermatologist at Mayday Hospital and then at St Georges Hospital and Medical School before taking up his current post.
His Photodermatology Unit is one of the leading centres in the world for the treatment of skin diseases and of research into them. He also established the National Xeroderma Pigmentosum Centre in 2010, which is the largest such centre in the world.
He is actively involved in research on sunlight sensitivity, sun allergy, and ultraviolet light therapy and frequently lectures internationally on these. He has published his Dermatology research widely. He is a previous associate editor on the Rook's Textbook of Dermatology, Editorial Board Member of the 'Photodermatology Photoimmunology Photomedicine' Journal, current President of the European Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society, current co-Chair of the Britain and Ireland Porphyria Network, previous Chair of the British Photodermatology Group.
