Dr Ray Shidrawi is a consultant gastroenterologist at The Wellington Hospital with special interests in interventional endoscopy including therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) insertion. He has also has a wide experience in the management of general gastrointestinal, hepatic and pancreatico-biliary diseases, including the management of inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), coeliac disease and food intolerances.
Dr Shidrawi has practiced in the NHS for over 30 years. As a consultant gastroenterologist at the Homerton University Hospital in London since 2000, Dr Shidrawi has acquired a large experience in the endoscopic treatment of bariatric surgical complications working within the Homerton Bariatric Centre, and has a special interest in the non-invasive management of obesity. In collaboration with colleagues at La Sapienza University in Rome, he has promoted the Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition (KEN) diet in the UK since 2011.
Dr Shidrawi has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on a wide variety of subjects including interventional endoscopy, nutrition, viral hepatitis and coeliac disease. He is considered a key opinion leader in many fields, and is invited to participate in international meetings including live endotherapy sessions.
