Dr Rakesh Sharma is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and Cardiology Lead for Cardiac Sarcoidosis.
He qualified in 1995 with triple honours from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School (now part of King’s College
London) and was Proxime Accesit to the University of London Gold Medal. He underwent postgraduate training at tertiary centres in London.
Dr Sharma was awarded a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study his PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. For his research, he won the Young Investigator Prize at the American Heart Association.
He has specialist expertise in:
· advanced pacing (including the implantation of biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators)
· cardiac sarcoidosis
· cardio-oncology.
Research interests
Dr Rakesh Sharma has an active research programme in cardiac sarcoidosis, heart failure and complex device therapy.
Publications
Dr Rakesh Sharma is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including original papers, reviews, editorials, abstracts and book chapters.
Teaching
Dr Rakesh Sharma is a regular speaker at national and international conferences.
