General (Internal) Medicine
Most Physicians in the United Kingdom train in general internal medicine and then have a specialty interest. Sometimes the role of the general internal physician, providing an overview, is lost in specialist opinions. Dr Pelly’s clinical practice has remained very wide and he sees patients of all ages from young adults with post-travel illness to the elderly with more complex problems.
As an experienced consultant, he is used to dealing with a wide variety of illnesses and conditions and is known for his careful and thorough approach, especially for those referrals without a clear diagnosis.
His approach is traditional and holistic, beginning with a full history and examination to look at the whole picture, in order to reach and agree a plan for investigation and management.
Dr Pelly has a special interest in humanitarian action, particularly epidemic control and the management of crises and disasters affecting large populations. He has had extensive experience in famine relief in Africa and experience working in long term programme development in Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea.
He worked as an external medical advisor to a TB/HIV programme for the International Federation of the Red Cross in the Former Soviet Union.
