



Histopathology
Dr Lia Patricia Menasce completed her medical degree at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1980 and her PhD at Manchester University in I994, developing new techniques for the diagnosis of lymphoma. She pioneered fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) techniques for the diagnosis of haemolymphoid malignancies and contributed to the mapping of the human genome.
Dr Menasce trained in histopathology in Manchester, followed by sub specialisation in haemolymphoid and endocrine pathology at The Christie and IPATIMUP (Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology at the University of Porto), Portugal. She has been a consultant histopathologist at The Christie since January 2001 and is currently the clinical director of pathology.
