



Mr Krishna Moorthy, MS MD FRCS, is a Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a Senior Lecturer in surgery at Imperial College London. He specialises in upper gastrointestinal surgery and bariatric surgery. Mr Moorthy has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery for cancers of the stomach and oesophagus, hiatus hernia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and swallowing disorders such as oesophageal achalasia, gall bladder removal, appendectomy, groin and abdominal hernia repairs. He is also an expert in bariatric surgical procedures including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Mr Moorthy performs single-incision surgery (scarless surgery) and he also uses robotic surgery. Mr Moorthy has performed the first robotic gastric bypass and gastric band in the UK.
Mr Moorthy has led the development of a novel rehabilitation programme, PREPARE for surgery. which has won numerous awards including the BMJ Surgical team of the year 2017. Mr Moorthy was also a member of the WHO working group for the development of the WHO surgical safety checklist. He is actively involved in research and publishes widely on his field of expertise.
