



Endocrinology
Dr Powrie is currently providing telephone and video consultations, as well as face to face appointments.
Dr Powrie's medical training and initial medical degree was at the University of Aberdeen. Following post-graduate medical training moved to St Thomas’ Hospital in London to complete his specialist training and a Doctorate which was awarded in 1996. He was also awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of both London and Edinburgh, in 1999 and 2000.
Dr Powrie was appointed a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1997. Shortly thereafter he was appointed head of the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology in 1998 and continued to run this large multidisciplinary unit for 17 years making many innovative changes and advances in care ensuring that this service remained in the forefront of patient treatment.
This unit was, and remains, one of the largest and most comprehensive specialist centres in the UK and receives many complex referrals, both from the UK, and abroad.
Dr Powrie is widely published and is an honorary senior lecturer with King's College London. He has written over 40 peer reviewed articles in specialist scientific journals and has led international research projects. He is a member of many learned societies including the Society for Endocrinology (UK), The Endocrine Society (USA) and Diabetes UK. He is a reviewer for several national and international publications and has been involved in all forms of teaching from medical students through to international specialist courses.
Throughout his career Dr Powrie has practiced specialist endocrinology and diabetes both at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and London Bridge Hospitals. He runs a specialist thyroid clinic which deals with overactive and underactive thyroid conditions as well as thyroid nodules, goitres and thyroid cancer. His clinics also deal with all other forms of hormonal disorders in endocrinology including pituitary, adrenal, parathyroid, calcium disorders, ovarian and testicular disorders and general diabetes clinics.
Dr Powrie is a keen sportsman and loves spending time in the mountains or sailing with his family.
