Dr Deane Halfpenny is a consultant in Musculoskeletal Pain Medicine, who has a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge with particular areas of expertise including; non-surgical management of spinal pain and injury, myofascial pain syndromes, sports injury, CRPS and neuropathic pain.
Having graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, Dr Halfpenny completed his specialist training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He took training posts as a lecturer and advanced pain trainee and was awarded the FFPMRCA. He took up a consultant post in 2001 and established multidisciplinary services in the management of pain both within the NHS and private sector.Dr Halfpenny works closely with multi-professional colleagues both within the private sector and other leading medical institutions. These include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, cognitive psychologists and personal trainers. His approach is to understand the mechanisms behind pain and the effect on individuals. He provides patients with personal programmes that address lifestyle, exercise and techniques aimed at pain reduction in a holistic manner.
Dr Halfpenny is also a keen sportsperson, having competed as a gymnast at a national level in South Africa. This enables him to have an invaluable insight into the management of pain in both the professional and amateur sporting arena.
Dr Halfpenny works closely with a number of sports physicians and has helped numerous leading sportsmen and women return to competitive sport at international levels. He is also clinical lead for the London Orthopaedic Clinic and is directly involved in governance and Care Quality Commission roles. He has continued to provide innovation to his clinical practice having established regular multidisciplinary pain clinics in addition to providing cutting edge interventional therapies including the use of orthobiologicals (PRP and stem cell treatments).
